St Just in Penwith Town Council has finalised the budget for the 2026/27 financial year, ensuring that vital community services continue to be delivered.
Key Budget Headlines:
- Precept Requested: £347960.00
- Percentage Increase: 4.2%
- Band D Property Annual Contribution:£178.65 (compared to £171.53 in 2025/26)
- Weekly increase for Band D Properties:£0.13p
- Annual increase for Band D Properties:£7.12
How the Precept Fits into Your Council Tax
The precept is the amount of your Council Tax that is allocated specifically to St Just in Penwith Town Council. Cornwall Council sets the overall Council Tax rate, which includes contributions for various local services such as police, fire services, waste collection, and more. The town council precept is included within this overall bill, and it funds essential local services including Pendeen recreation park maintenance, public toilets, car parks and the library.
Once Cornwall Council sets its budget, you’ll receive your Council Tax bill, which will include our precept alongside the contributions for other services.
Comparison to 2025/26
This year’s budget reflects a modest increase of 4.2%, although this is an increase it does include a rise in the grant budget to local groups and associations to £36000 from £30000, and covers inflation currently running at 3.8%. This careful budgeting aims to manage rising costs while minimising the impact on residents. Although we are still entitled to extra monies from the second homes in St Just Parish , there is a noticeable reduction in the number of properties eligible for the council tax premium, when comparted to 2025/26, this is due to the fact that since 1 April 2025, Cornwall Council has been contacted by many second home owners who have provided evidence as to why their property should not be charged the premium due to one of the specific exemptions.
