On Sunday, Deputy Mayor Fynn Tucker unveiled a plaque marking the starting point of the Tinner’s Way, the historic trade route linking St Just to St Ives.
Councillor Tucker relayed a short history of the importance of the Tinner’s Way and its far-reaching impact well beyond these shores, and gave thanks to all those involved in the project celebrating its importance.
Reverend Karsten then gave a blessing and Councillor Tucker (accompanied by his two young sons) set off with a large group of keen walkers eastbound to walk a 6-mile loop of the trail, while others tackled the entire 14 miles to St Ives, ending at St Ia’s Church opposite the lifeboat station.
Thank you to Councillor Doug Luxford and Church Warden Andrew Burt for their work in obtaining the necessary permissions to install the plaque and to Richard Belton of West Cornwall Footpaths Preservation Society for organising the annual Tinner’s Way walk and his dedication in fundraising to refurbish existing (and installing new) way markers to improve accessibility and visibility along the route.
